A fun discovery at the Phoenix Art Museum: Arizona-based western artist and sculptor Ed Mell. I love the stark, sharp lines and geometric shapes, rich colors, and breathtaking landscapes.
Sweeping Clouds (© Phoenix Art Museum, 1989, oil on canvas)—above—is on display at the museum.
(His artwork is also featured on a US postage stamp.)
Great stuff! His work reminds me a little bit of some of the Northern landscapes painted by the Group of Seven (Canadian art collective).

You know, that was one of the ones that I had in mind! So glad we share the same great taste.

I used to live 2 houses down from Ed Mell’s art studio in downtown PHX.

I know, it’s hard to stop looking. The cool thing is this is quintessential Arizona sky, and he captures it beautifully.
